Robert Tobin: More Powerful in the Afterlife
This sculpture is a memorial to the late Prof. Robert Deam Tobin who was a dear friend and great mentor to me. Bob is the single greatest influence on my decision to pursue a career and life as an artist. I think of this often. Over the winter of 2026 I spent studio time meditating on the influence people have on us in death, and how certain individuals are more powerful in the afterlife. This sculptural work uses a portrait of Bob, taken by Stephen Dirado, which I reworked into a digitally collaged altar piece and printed 2D. I have used steel wire and acrylic medium to solidify the soft planes of paper into hard, fixed forms.
